There were lots of smiles Monday, 11/2/09 in Fargo as two healthcare giants made their merger official to now become known as Sanford Health-Meritcare. President and CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft, (Sabin, Minn., native) left, will be at the helm of the new entity while retiring MeritCare president and CEO Dr. Roger Gilbertson, also pictured here, will stay on in a consultant role through 2010. With corporate headquarters in each Fargo and Sioux Falls, S.D., Sanford Health-MeritCare now becomes the nation's largest non-profit rural healthcare system. It will operate in six states, have over 17,000 employees, about 800 physicians while its nearly 30 hospitals will serve about 2 million people with combined revenues of $2 billion.
