MERGER OF GIANTS: Fargo's MeritCare and Sioux Falls' Sanford Health (9)
There were lots of smiles Monday, 11/2/09 in Fargo as two healthcare giants made their merger official to now become known as Sanford Health-Meritcare. President and CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft, (Sabin, Minn., native) left, will be at the helm of the new entity while retiring MeritCare president and CEO Dr. Roger Gilbertson, also pictured here, will stay on in a consultant role through 2010. With corporate headquarters in each Fargo and Sioux Falls, S.D., Sanford Health-MeritCare now becomes the nation's largest non-profit rural healthcare system. It will operate in six states, have over 17,000 employees, about 800 physicians while its nearly 30 hospitals will serve about 2 million people with combined revenues of $2 billion. -

2009 ROGER MARIS CELEBRITY GOLF TOURNAMENT: Celebrities arrive - so does rain.. (9)
Billy Crystal was the headliner Saturday, June 27th as he appeared in Fargo for a screening of his HBO Films project "61" - at the Fargo Theatre. Among the other celebrities appearing were Brock Lesnar of Webster, S.D., who is the UFC Heavyweight Champion. -
YARD ORNAMENT...turning a retired DC-9 into a hunting shack in Holt, Minn. (5)
Passersby on nearby State Highway 32 in tiny Holt, Minn., get quite a jolt when they look to the west...it's a DC-9 airliner sitting in front of the old schoolhouse...Well, Ron Davidson of Davidson Concrete Contruction & Manufacturing is converting the retired giant into a hunting lodge. Along with a couple of those, here's a couple more "looks" around the little hamlet just north of Thief River Falls, Minn., about 150 miles northeast of the Fargo-Moorhead area... -

CRUISIN' BROADWAY RETURNS TO DOWNTOWN FARGO (18)
What emerged in the early to mid-1950s as a rite of teenage passage, has been re-born in downtown Fargo the first Thursday night of each summer month..."Cruisin' Broadway". But, the tradition trailed off considerably in 1970s when city leaders decided sidewalk awnings all up and down Broadway were THE way to attract shoppers and night-lifers back to downtown areas. Out came the awnings and the traffic restricting center islands sent cruising into dormant mode. It came back with a vengeance in the late 1980s after the awnings and center islands were removed only to be throttled back by a noise ordinance from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The first "Cruisin' Broadway" event of 2009 kicked off the downtown Fargo summer events Thursday, May 20th... -

The new Silver Moon Supper Club, open about a week at 309 Roberts Street in Fargo, is a faithful replica of the Silver Moon Cafe in Moorhead that existed from 1946 until fire destroyed in 1968.
